Hey everyone, I’m Paige.

I’m a student at a middle school in Connecticut. My favorite subject is English. I love all animals and nature. I have a dog named Titan, a fished named Arnold, and a great horse named Patrick. I live with my wonderful mom and dad. My parents love nature and animals as well. I play soccer on a town team. It is so much fun because I have all my friends on the team with me. I also love skiing. My family and I ski basically all winter. Golf is our family summer sport, it is a great way to get outside and relax while playing a fun game. The reason why I have this web page is so I can inspire and be an influence on other kids my age.

GREEN TIPS

According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. (Estimated cost to retailers is $4 billion)

Wash your laundry in cold water. 90% of your washer’s energy is put into using hot water.

With the amount of junk mail that Americans receive in one day we could heat 250,000 homes.

Refrigerators with a freezer installed on top save on average 20% more energy than a side-by-side model.

Barely 20% of plastic water bottles are recycled. Purchase a water filter and re-usable water bottle instead.

40% of the energy you use in your home is for heat.

40% of the energy used by home appliances is used when they are turned off.

If everyone that subscribed to the New York Times recycled their daily papers we would save 6,000 tons of pollution out of the air.

Our country recycles only 32% of its waste.

Trees absorb and filter rainwater reducing flooding and prevent pollutants from entering our water systems.

According to the EPA, 75% of trash can be recycled, but only 25% actually is.

Compact Fluorescent light bulbs use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer.

History Of Earth Day

On April 22, 1970, Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin started an environmental revolution. Nelson held the first Earth Day celebration in which 20 million people participated in awareness raising activities that would become the country's first organized activity for the environment. The events of that day have had a permanent impact on public opinion regarding the importance of the environment. Every April 22nd has officially been deemed Earth Day and each year rallies and demonstrations are held to educate and inform the public about our precious natural resources. To learn more, read "How the First Earth Day Came About" by Senator Gaylord Nelson.

Paige's Tip's for SAVING WATER!
Thursday 03-04-2010 2:56pm ET

CHECK FOR LEAKY FAUCETS!
Small leaks and drips can cause 20 gallons of water to go to waste everyday!

NEVER FLUSH SMALL AMOUNTS OF PAPER DOWN YOUR TOILET!
You will waste 5 -7 gallons of water EACH FLUSH!!

DON'T LINGER IN THE SHOWER!!!
4 minute showers use 20 to 40 gallons of water!!!!!!!

WHEN TO WASH YOUR CLOTHES AND DISHES???
Only run loads in your dishwasher and washing machine when you have FULL LOADS!!!!
